SEC's Alphabet Soup
The proposed Climate-disclosure rule from the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) is daunting. It fails to answer the simple question that many managers have, which is, “What do I actually have to do at 8 o’clock on Monday morning?”
One of the reasons that the proposed rule so overwhelming is that it refers to many, many other organizations — all of which are identified by an acronym. Here is a selection:
TCFD
EPA
IPCC
GHG
FSB
SASB
CDSB
GRI
CDP
CDSB
IIRC
NGFS
PRI
IFRS
ISSB
FSOC
FASB
ISO
Doubtless there are others, but that is enough to be going on with.
Anyone who is developing a program to meet the rule’s requirements needs to understand what these organizations are and how their guidance and information links to the SEC’s requirements.
What makes the above list even more formidable is that the fact that some of these organizations no longer exist, sometimes because they have merged with one another.
