Climate Change 2022: Impacts, Adaptation and Vulnerability Report
The IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) issues reports to do with climate change on a regular basis. The post The IPCC and Its Reports lists five of the most recent and significant of these reports. They are:
Climate Change 2021: The Physical Science Basis (this one);
Climate Change 2022: Impacts, Adaptation and Vulnerability;
Climate Change 2022: Mitigation of Climate Change; and
Sixth Assessment Fact Sheet.
In this post we consider the first of these reports: Global Warming of 1.5°C.
The second report in the Sixth Assessment series is to do Impacts, Adaptation and Vulnerability.
The Impacts message is that human induced climate change is already having profound consequences, and that the causes of these changes are beyond natural climate variability.
With regard to Adaptation, the report describes five levels of response.
Awareness that climate change is causing risks,
Assessing the extent of risks,
Development and planning of adaptation measures,
Implementation of adaptation measures, and
Monitoring and evaluation of the effectiveness of those adaptation measures.
When it comes to Vulnerability the report says that there is much regional variation. It also states that somewhere between 3.3 and 3.6 billion people live in situations that are highly vulnerable to climate change.
