I live in central Virginia, USA. The local newspaper is the Richmond Times-Dispatch. Wikipedia says of the newspaper as, ‘Editorially, the Times-Dispatch has historically leaned conservative. It supported many of former President George W. Bush's policies, including the 2003 invasion of Iraq and a flat income tax’.
Given the paper’s conservative background, it is interesting to follow its stance on climate change. In the May 9th edition the paper published an Associated Press an article entitled ‘Extreme weather grips much of the world’. The article lists many of the climate catastrophes that have occurred in recent months. The following two quotations summarize the article’s message.
In a world growing increasingly accustomed to wild weather swings, the last few days and weeks have seemingly taken those environmental extremes to a new level.
Climate change is loading the weather dice against us in every part of the world.
It is noteworthy that this conservative newspaper is now reporting on climate change as a fact of life. It is also saying that climate change has devastating consequences.
