An Energy Framework
Much of the material at this site is structured around the above sketch. This is obviously a very busy drawing. It will be unpacked in subsequent chapters. There are no significant CO2 emissions from the energy sources shown in the grid, which is structured around the following concepts.
The first column, ‘Energy Source’, shows different types of energy source. They are grouped into two broad categories. Those in Section A are intermittent and non-dispatchable, those in Section B provide a steady supply of energy.
The second column is ‘Electricity’. Most of the renewable sources of energy produce electricity. Most of that electricity is supplied to the grid (Section G). In addition, some of the electricity is stored to take care of the swings in the production rate. Electricity is also used to generate “green hydrogen” (Section D).
